CHRISTMAS 2016!

It can be so amazing to get together with loved ones to enjoy a feast of delicious food, good conversations, laughter, play a few card/board games, to watch festive movies, sing-a-long to cheesy classics and simply be in one another's company.... It must be Christmas, ha-ha!!

I'm very blessed, as are many of you, to be able to indulge in life this way - God willing, I know for sure that I can see my family every Christmas and, together, we will ensure we all have the most awesome time celebrating the season! It's incredibly upsetting that for one too many Christmas is not a 'holiday' they have the privilege of, owing to a long list of reasons that would fill this entire article!!

In fact, the biggest heartache for me during 2016 was coming across so many who were at some sort of disadvantage; not being able to progress through no fault of their own. From the homeless couple I met near Box Park in Shoreditch, London [UK] to the young people [under age 17] going through very difficult times and the single mother unable to feed herself due to the cost of living and raising her child, 2016 had my eye balls see A LOT, all of which I was deeply affected by.

During 2016 I gave back whenever the opportunity presented itself, wherever possible, and within reason, simply to see others smile. Once again, one of my goals for 2017 [TWENTY-SEVEN-TEEN, good grief] is to use the platforms available to me to support others in some way. I'm determined to make this happen and am working towards something I very much hope will do well....

This is my last blog entry for 2016, straight off the back of a wonderful Christmas spent with my immediate family!

I hope you will each have a super jolly time for the remainder of 2016 and a splendid New Year. Thank you so, so much for supporting this blog [to date, it has received 47,000+ views worldwide], my radio journey [almost 5 years] and all other endeavors I have pursued over the years. I hope to have your continued support throughout 2017. God bless, folks x

Make the last days of 2016 COUNT!!

AFFORDABLE HOME PAMPER EXPERIENCE!

Sunday 18 December 2016

AFFORDABLE HOME SPA EXPERIENCE!

Quite a number of people have asked me about the above based on some tweets and Instagram posts so, I thought I’d share with you what I do to indulge in a bit of rest and relaxation! Hope you find this useful…

Sunday - Home Spa bath.
It’s like a sauna and steam which helps [me] with body aches and pains! Prep the day/night before if you can.

  • Make sure you give your bathroom, especially the tub, a thorough clean.
  • Set aside any calming oils and your favourite scented shower/bath wash.
  • Decide what music you’ll have play in the background [soothing riddims].
  • Lay out your essential body lotions and clothes.
  • Making sure the bathroom windows are shut, run your bath [add the oils, bubbles etc].
  • Have a light, healthy snack and be sure to take a bottle of water into the bathroom with you.
  • Once run, put your music on and set your phone to silent.
  • Dim the lights, if possible, or turn them off and lay out mini candles to help you relax.
  • Include soothing oils, some bubbles and a lush bath bomb for extra moisture.
  • Ensuring the temperature is right for you, sink into your tub and indulge in steamy, fragrant relaxation!
  • TIP: If you struggle [for whatever reason] to quiet your mind, instead of music, read a motivational book whilst the bath is running and take it with you to read once you’re in the bath.

My essential products used for my home spa bath:
Snow Fairy [used to create bubbles and soften my skin]
Lavender oil, just a few drops unmixed [calming scent]
Olbas oil, 2 drops [for sinus and headache relief]
Faux mini candles [for ambience and relaxation]

Monday – Thursday
I meditate [either first thing in the morning, before my workout, or just before bed] and make sure that I put myself in a quiet space to do so. The aim is to pause my thoughts and free my mind; to just be completely still and peaceful for 10 – 20 minutes. I don’t believe there’s a one-size-fits-all where meditation is concerned so, how you mediate and for how long is entirely up to you! Drinking some water beforehand helps and you ought to be in comfy clothing, in a relaxing and quiet environment that enables you to switch off. Doing this actually gives me a lot of energy and has me feel super positive afterwards. The challenge with meditating is making sure you do not allow your mind to wander onto things, people, or subjects that are negative, or upsetting.

Friday
I try to read as much of my chosen book as possible [always something funny, uplifting and positive, or educational in some way – Oprah’s What I Know For Sure is an excellent read!!] For me, it works best to take my book to bed with me and read a few chapters before I snooze. Since doing this I either have really amazing dreams, or I don’t dream at all. Either way, insomnia is not such a problem anymore! Remember how often I would tweet about that? Ugh! Not The One!!

Saturday
It’s all about feel-good music! As a child, I remember my mother would [usually on a Sunday morning] have us [3] wake up to some country and western, soul, rhythm and blues, or reggae that she would be singing and dancing along too! Sometimes we would join her for a sing-a-long and a little boogie!! It was so much fun and a lot of laughter was shared so, this is something I have continued to do in my own home once a week and I flipping love my one-woman raves!!!!

There you have it! Simple but, super effective ways to get and keep your mind [and body] right throughout the coming months. Always better to surround yourself with the things [and people] who add to your happiness. From your mind is right you’re less likely to go wrong, which is what you want for 2017!!

Enjoy the festivities, folks! Lots of love x

Monday 5 December 2016

BECOMING A MUM

9 months in my tummy, potentially the world of cravings, more aches and pains on top of those I already live with on a daily basis, nausea, possible frequent sickness, weight gain, stretch marks, fatigue, heightened emotions and the rest! See all of that I can handle.... The fact that, although we live in such a beautiful world, there are far too many horrid individuals living among us isn't something I can handle.

Aged 14, or 15, I remember having a conversation with my mother about being a parent one day and I said, "Mummy, I don't ever want to get married, or have babies". She didn't question me, her response was, "okay, no problem". At the time of sharing this post, I am 36, single and focused on my goals and my feelings about parenthood remain the same. The thought of becoming a mum sends my anxiety through the roof!

Not that I feel a need to justify my decisions however, I am so over being asked if I'm married and have any children, or when I'll settle down and start a family, followed by looks of utter disgust and disappointment when I reply with, "I have no intention of having a family of my own, thanks". Since when did it become compulsory? I've no interest in doing such things. In all honesty, the idea of getting married is absolutely fine although it would need to be incredibly low-key and inexpensive!

Life provides no guarantee that you, or your loved ones will always be safe and well. We can never know for sure if, when, or how we can protect those we love from experiencing awful things in their lives so, I've chosen not to place that burden or worry on myself any further by having children of my own! As I mentioned, the world is filled with far too much darkness for me to bring another human being into it who will, as a result of that darkness, have to go through way too many murky times. In addition to that, I just do not ever get that broody feeling when I'm around babies. I'm the one who will "coo", maybe hold them for a while and then smile real wide as I hand them back.

My mind is and has been made up for a good 22 years and while I frigging adore children so much, the role of auntie, occasional babysitter, youth worker etc are more than enough for me. I get to contribute to the positive and productive growth of our young people without becoming too emotionally involved or attached.

I think it is so wrong to try and make a woman [or man for that matter] feel as though they exist only for the purpose of reproduction and, or to imply that women above a certain age who are without a husband and children have less of a place in society, or within a 'social' circle. My position in this universe has nothing to do with whether or not I have, or will have a baby and everything to do with what I choose to contribute to the greater good of the world.

Although I am really pleased for those who make the choice to do so, I do not want to bring babies into this world and that, my readers, is that! The End!

10 HEALTH TIPS

Hey folks! This is based entirely on my own lifestyle....

I am not a health professional, nor am I a nutritionist, or fitness expert and I am certainly not a life coach. I've made changes over the years and have seen fab results so, I thought I'd share a few tips with you! I continue to reassess both my mental and physical health and make changes / improvements wherever I feel such is necessary. I'm a firm believer that it is better to feel good than to look good. Although both is the aim, right? LOL!

1. Drink garlic tea every morning and / or evening to aid digestion.

2. Add Flaxseed, or Linseed to your breakfast and Moringa to your lunch / dinner.

3. Do a minimum of 20-30 minutes exercise up to 5 days a week.

4. Throughout the day, eat when hungry but, eat small healthy portions and to avoid snacking on sugary foods, carry almonds nuts [or your preferred choice] with you.

5. Drink water with every meal and replace your coffee and tea with herbal teas.

6. Carry mints instead of chewing gum - keep your breath fresh without making yourself hungry.

7. Remember, some fruits contain a lot of sugar so, choose your 5 a day carefully.

8. Switch your mobile phone off, or set the handset to silent, turn it face down and leave it in a different room as of 1 hour before bedtime .

9. Meditate, or read a chapter of an inspiring book before you go to bed at night.

10. CONTACT @pmacfitness for nutrition tips, personal trainer services and more health tips!

Trying to achieve a healthy and balanced lifestyle became important to me after my diagnosis and I hope by sharing my experiences I can encourage you, if you're not already doing so, to try your best to treat your body and mind with a lot more love and care!

BLOGGERS XMAS GIFTS

On Saturday 19th November, I attended the Bloggers Christmas 2016 event at a vintage pub in Moorgate, London courtesy of +Soeurs de Luxe and left with a bag of freebies which means a fab GIVEAWAY for you and the testing of some goodies....

PRODUCTS REVIEWED
The Lens Kit by +PNY Technologies Inc

The kit looks amazing and is very easy to assemble. However, as is the case with most mobile phone gadgets, this kit is not compatible with my Cubot X16. I tried the lenses with a Nokia Lumia smartphone and saw no difference in the picture scope/quality. I'll have friends and family try it too and tweet [if I remember to] about how they find it.

Yankee Candle - www.yankeecandle.co.uk

I received the Wedding Day candle [random, literally] and could smell its scent before I had even opened the box. Strong but pleasant, I like the fragrance and was pleased that it was a small size [any bigger and the scent may have knocked me out]. It didn't produce its scent whilst burning which was odd. The scented candles from Poundland are better!!

Birch Water [Clean & Lean] by Sibberi

It tastes like what starch looks like, harsh on the tongue and chalky. At the time of trying this drink, I was quite thirsty so, I took quite a big swig.... It was not nice at all. 'Birch' [which sounds like a name given to something that is stale] is the right name for this 'water'.

Naturelly Jelly Juice - www.naturelly.co.uk

I am a pure water drinker and have been for so many years that any liquid with even a hint of flavour will be a bit much for me and the blackcurrant was! That said, the texture of the jelly was lovely and it's so easy to drink. I tried them both at room temperature and then having had them in the fridge for an hour. Defo better to keep them refrigerated, I think. The tropical fruits Jelly Juice isn't as sweet and is so refreshing. They're also FREE from gelatin, gluten, wheat, dairy, nuts and are vegan friendly!!

Hydration mask by Freeman

Not since the cucumber range from Boots discovered many moons ago have I ever felt a facial product so silky and refreshing, all at once, on my face! This mask is LIFE, literally! It has a gorgeous fragrance and I could feel it working, real talk and it left my skin soft and very smooth!! I intend to purchase some more of these asap!

Gluten Free Bread Kit by MannaVida

Ridiculously easy to prepare and bake! The box includes all of the ingredients and equipment needed, the instructions are incredibly straightforward and the results are so good that the bread was devoured [not alone by the way] before I realised that I hadn't snapped the result!! Whether it's a dietary requirement or not, I suggest you try this bread. It is too yummy and smells amazing!!

THE BLOGGERS CHRISTMAS Exhibit 2016 review:
Despite now blogging for six years, this was the first time I had attended a bloggers event [conflicting schedules in the past meant I've not been able to] and I did so because, I think it's important to gain as much insight as possible into your field irrespective of how much you already 'know' and the 'level' at which you 'rank', so to speak....

Finch's Pub is a really nice venue, which I didn't expect [due to it being a place where folks go to indulge in alcohol] and the vintage feel gave it a very chilled, laid back vibe. Everyone I met was pleasant, friendly, chatty and the businesses exhibiting were unique and new to me which was both exciting and fun! - Look out for La Miela on my radio show in 2017, God willing.

Would be awesome to see bloggers and vloggers supporting one another more, as well as being more about the force behind the 'talents' we showcase. Sampling freebies is amazing and helpful for companies but, taking the time to get to know the creator behind the product, or the company pushing a campaign, or brand etc is far more rewarding and no doubt better for boosting product awareness and the profile of content creators reviewing the products/services. One of the awesome companies I connected with was Journo Link - make sure you check them out!

The best discovery, for me, was BLOGOSPHERE MAGAZINE, frigging luv it!! Whether you've been blogging for centuries, a day, or are thinking about starting a blog, this mag is to be your blogging 'bible'.... Go subscribe!

Leaving the bloggers event with some goodies was great, the complimentary food [not nibbles, I might add, edible, filling food] was a grand touch and I think the organisers did a really good job of creating a 'hub' for bloggers and brands to connect, network and initiate partnerships. My friend and I had a lovely time.. #bloggersxmas

Note to fellow bloggers and vloggers:
Blogging/vlogging needs to be [and remain] authentic, consistent and supportive otherwise what's the point? Never allow money to be the motivation. Be driven positively by your passion and enthusiasm to discover new businesses etc.

GIVEAWAY!

3 gems for you! x

ONLINE TREATS!!

NETFLIX [UK]

How To Get Away with Murder
Season 1 was a little difficult to get into for the five 5 episodes however, it's all FIRE from that point onwards with Season 2 being an absolute BANGER of a show!! The cast are frigging awesome and Viola Davis is just sensational in the lead role. I take my fake hair off to the entire team for such a masterpiece!

Power

Super annoyed that the episodes are made available on a weekly basis. Other than that, it's absolutely thrilling and super addictive. Your heart is constantly trying to reason with your mind; there's a consistent self battle between your like and dislike for the characters which adds to both the excitement and frustration the story line presents. It's a really good watch and another Netflix gem with a great cast and team.

Gotham

In places it can drag so badly. Stick with it though because, it's everything - mind boggling, funny, shocking, gruesome [if that's your thing] and the cast are on point. I reckon the creative team have a lot of fun with it.

Luke Cage

Mike Colter is on fine form both as an actor and a man, ahem [ha-ha]. This guy is too sexy t'rarse so, even when you're not really feeling a particular scene of his, you don't want him to leave the screen because, your eyes will like what they see. Well, mine do! It's a bit of a predictable and far fetched one [I, mean, it is Marvel] yet a decent watch at the same time. It's quite endearing and warm in a way.

YOUTUBE

Iyanla Vanzant
If you're looking for a channel that can offer you positivity and motivation 24/7, this is it! Grab yourself a cuppa, a pen and a notepad then indulge in Iyanla's wisdom and truth with an open mind..

OWN

It's Oprah. Need I say any more? Soul, heart, wisdom, motivation and then some.. You'd be a fool to not tap into the videos shared on her channel, real talk!

AgentXPQ

Black and white animated videos described as 'Confused comedy for Confused people' created by one super talented man with a quirky voice for narration. I frigging L O V E this channel!!

Amy Schmittauer

I'm not really about vloggers, I find that most of them spend the majority of their videos talking about something for too long [usually of no real substance], or showing too much of the nonsense going on around them before actually getting to the point [of their vlog], with the title of their videos rarely having anything to do with the actual content however, this beauty is different. She is insightful, positively driven, authentic, funny, knowledgeable and her channel is filled with an abundance of tips and genuine information about the type of things we all need help with, or want to know. I find her to be massively inspirational and quite like the sound of her voice/accent which helps.

WEBSITES

Rakuten
You already know, right? No? You should do! Always remember Amazon but, be sure to check out the site formerly known as Play.Com - My go to for almost everything especially music!
www.rakuten.co.uk

LinkedIn

A fantastic tool for finding work and opportunities, a great way to learn from others and also a hub of online courses tailored to your specific career pursuit - I cannot believe how many people still don't know about the goodies this site offers!
www.linkedin.com

Eventbrite

A worldwide hub for local networking events, jobs, opportunities, gigs and more.
www.eventbrite.co.uk // www.eventbrite.com

MISS PAP

A recent accidental discovery [I'm not into fashion and the latest trends] however, I purchased a few bits all of which fit nicely during my birthday holiday to Santorini earlier this year. The clothes looked fab and I felt S U P E R comfortable [one of the items bought was a bikini but, I didn't take any pics! Soz!!].

BEAUTY / MAKEUP

The fact that I am not into this section of the post should already let you know how fab these bits and bobs are, coming from the beauty and makeup inexperienced ME! LOL!!

The Body Shop
Their creams and bath fizzers are too damn good! Their products are cruelty free too so, you cannot go wrong at all!! My skin always feels 'loved', if you know what I mean, after I've used a Body Shop product.

My all time favourite bath fizzers are the LUSH bath bombs, OH. MY. LIFE!!!!

Boots

In an older post I mentioned the products I buy for my face. I've been purchasing certain toiletries from Boots since I was a teen. They're brilliant and have always been great for my skin. Nothing harsh, or taxing on the skin/body with a Boots product - try the cucumber range.

Nail varnish

The Colour Show 60 seconds range by Maybelline - go try some, that is all. Literally!

Sleek

Their foundation gives you a slight glow and doesn't dry out your skin. Although quite mild, it does have a bit of an unpleasant smell which only lasts for a little while after it has been applied. I wouldn't say it's the best at all however, for basic [natural looking] coverage, it's decent.

RELATIONSHIP GOALS

This is likely to be the shortest post in my blogging history!

The picture collage below is a visual summary of what too many people nowadays [mostly young girls/women it seems] appear to perceive as being the "ultimate relationship goal", if social media is anything to go by and, as we all know, to some degree it is!

In reality, irrespective of the pursued 'relationship goal' with another person, the focus should first and foremost be on the relationship you have with yourself and/or God [if you're a believer]. Maybe stop for a minute or 10 to consider how right you have things with who you are at the moment. Do you think you'd be looking elsewhere [no doubt to complete, or fill a void you believe can only be done by having a certain type of 'relationship' with someone else] if the relationship you have with yourself was on point!? Perhaps it might be a good idea to quit searching outside of yourself for what it is you feel you're lacking, or missing and prioritise working on what is within. Once you get your ish together with who you are, you are likely to be blessed with your match [not some photo ideal] and your desired 'relationship goals' might then be achieved. I mean, I'm no expert but, I reckon pursuing what others have is never a good idea/plan and if not yet mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually right with yourself [think about that for a moment], even more so, you cannot possibly be ready to be right for someone else.

All of the above stated, why anyone ever believes anything they 'see' in the [mostly posed for] images shared online I will never know.

Previous post: WHAT ELSE YOU GON' DO?

Sunday 9 October 2016

WHAT ELSE YOU GON' DO?

Summer 2016 in the UK was the final straw. I had to write this!

BATHE DAILY
Some of you may laugh when you read the above header however, of those with the means to do so, you better believe there are people in the world who do not take the time to clean themselves properly or at all. I believe you should bathe in the morning, in the afternoon / evening if you plan to go out (and can actually have a shower beforehand), and before you go to bed. It is not about taking the days funk to sleep with you!

BRUSH and FLOSS
As with the bathing of your skin, there's nothing wrong with cleaning your teeth up to 3 times a day (brush, mouthwash) and flossing daily. I genuinely do not believe that twice a day is enough when you stop to consider just how long our (working) days can be and the amount we put into our gobs during that time!! From food, drinks, to chewing on pens, using our teeth to open things etc, etc... I reckon certain people's mouth are home to the world of bacteria and this is why they may be more likely to suffer with halitosis. Yuk!!!

TAKE OFF and MOISTURISE
How anyone can go to sleep comfortably with a face full of makeup (false eyelashes included) is beyond me! You're prone to having to fight off pizza toppings on that face of yours if you don't look after it properly. Remove your cover up (no matter how minimal) before you place your head on that pillow at night. You can find a step by step guide here.

That goes for your ears too. Clean out those bad boys, at least every other day, before the internal growth builds and causes hearing problems!

TRIM
Here's the thing: I know somewhere in the world live certain individuals who think that it's okay to leave body hair to grow but, they're wrong! It is not okay!! Hair holds smell (due to it being a breeding ground for bacteria) and, if left to grow, what was a fresh, pleasant scent (first thing in the morning and perhaps until mid afternoon) can develop into a stink that reminds those who walk pass you of the mess released from a dogs backside!! Nasty! I defo believe women should clean shave all areas (except for their head unless of course they want to) and men should trim to a 'number 1' all over, REAL TALK!!!! Just because you're covered up with clothes doesn't mean that dutty stench coming from your pits, or downtown is not reaching the nostrils of those around you. Trim that mess and keep it fresh. No need to use perfumed products down below as that will cause a different type of problem. Just cut / shave the bush, wash in warm water, dab-dry and Bob (whoever he is) can be your uncle. At night time, after you bathe, you might want to put a little talc in that area *wink*

Where the hair on our head is concerned, we already know! If you're unsure of how best to look after your hair type, speak with your family and friends, a hairdresser, or search the internet for lots of information and videos.

ZAP THOSE TOES
Listen, there's a standard cheese that all feet will have when they have been inside footwear for a certain amount of time. However, from you know your toes are smelling like something sitting inside your kitchen bin, you need to invest in some odour eaters for your most frequently used shoes / trainers and you also need to be cutting them toenails! Not sure how anyone can walk around comfortably with toenails that fall out and over the shoes they're wearing! Never a good look and even worse with nail polish!!

EXTRA'S
Non perfumed shower gel usually has less chemicals
E45 mixed with olive oil is a good body lotion and fairly priced
A pedicure on a monthly basis is a fab way to care for your feet
Harsh razors are no good on the skin. Same goes for a dry shave!
You can ask your dentist about flossing safely if you don't know how
Makeup removal wipes and other such products are better if scent free

Would love to have you tweet me with your own body / skin care tips that you know work from having tried and tested them.

Thanks for reading!
